The Eyepatch Guy is Not Radzinsky

A lot of people have conjectured that the man seen in the Pearl moniters was Radzinsky, which would make Kelvin a (bigger) liar. I think this would be a relatively good theory, except that it is now officially refuted by Gregg Nations, who is part of LOST’s writing and production team (he also confirms that Radzinsky is dead).

Read his post answering a fan question on The Fuselage.

Eyepatch guy is probably the owner of the glass eye found in the Arrow bunker. It is interesting that on close-ups, this man is wearing a DHARMA-logoed jumpsuit, so he appears to be a DHARMA employee. He is played by actor Andrew Divoff, who has not acted on LOST before, and appears to often play villains.

Who do you think the ‘one-eyed’ guy is?

Maybe it’s the ghost of Magnus Hanso himself! Arrr!

2. Andreas says:

I don’t really believe this but nevertheless I’m going to throw it out there – Maybe the signal shown on the monitor is not new but rather just bouncing around in the air like Sayid implied when he and Hurley found a radio frequency that played music.

I have no idea who he is so it will be exciting to find out!

Naw…that person saw that the camera was on and disconnected it.

4. Mark Robinson says:

I don’t have a hard and fast theory as to who he is, but I would be willing to lay bets that he is in the bunker known as “The Flame” (as seen on the black light map in “The Swan”). And I kind of have a hunch that that bunker has something to do with the monster/robot/pillar of smoke.

5. SpinPapi says:

Or the guy w/the patch has something to do with the smoke monster. Maybe he didn’t want them to see him operating it? Seems likely that whoever’s operating it thinks of him/herself as God, in a position to judge…and execute.

If we’ve got a villain on the show (finally…they’re gonna need one cuz the Others are all “good” LOL) then it’s all about to get a lot more interesting!!! I wonder if this will connect to those Rachel Blake videos?

6. Bruce says:

It’s obviously a Wizard of Oz thing going on.

Maybe, there was a previous Wiz reference with Henry Gale and the balloon. 🙂

8. Ric says:

Hammer! Wow:
Henry Gale “Dorothy Gale from Kansas”?

I think the one-eyed guy is another idiot trapped in another hatch, not knowing anything about anything…

He obviously knows quite a bit. He knew that there was a camera watching him (something the losties didnt know until Eko and Locke found the Pearl Station. Also, he was aware that the camera was not on until Sayid hooked it back up…. implying that ole one eye is the one who UN hooked it.

10. KillerR says:

Well he obviously hasn’t been watched on camera from the pearl before and paranoid enough to distroy the camera. He’s definatly the dude shaded in black on the mural in the swan, so he must be a “bad guy”. And where there’s one bad guy there are probably “others” near by. The answer will be revealed when we find out who was in the Desmonds vision that inspired the painting. I think desmond will tell someone locke or someone of that vision soon; maybe in the second act of this season. He may have even been in the swan with the other person (shaded in white) in the mural. Man this season is getting better and better. Cant wait for february to get here.

11. Susan says:

What about the comment by Locke that he saw a white light (beautiful—if his body language reflects his feelings about it) whereas Eko saw a black cloud. Are they seeing the same entity which shifts specifically for the viewer. Thoughts???

Wasn’t it Locke that was dragged by it and almost pulled into the ground? Didn’t look white to me.

Your assuming lock was talking about smokey, I think he was talking about the implosion. Locke doesnt know that Eko saw smokey does he?

Your assuming lock was talking about smokey, I think he was talking about the implosion. Locke doesnt know that Eko saw smokey does he?
Yes, I think he does because he has come face to face with smokey before…I don’t remember if it’s in S1 or S2, but he was being chased, fell to the ground, and the camera gave the appearance that it came right up to him…fade to black…the next time we see Locke he is “changed” and has “seen what the island is all about”. He even mentioned when someone else saw it that it won’t hurt you.

15. Andreas says:

We don’t really know if the thing Locke saw in the jungle was Smokey or if it was something else.

16. Hammer says:
We don’t really know if the thing Locke saw in the jungle was Smokey or if it was something else.
Are we now assuming the that smoke and mechanical monsters are two different things?

17. LostDamery says:

I think there are 2 Monsters a good security system one that is controlled by patchy and an evil twin that is a frankenstein smoke monster…out of control and killing people.

18. Julie says:

Does anyone have a freeze frame of the mural in the hatch? I would like to take another look at it.

19. todd sanders says:

also found it funny, since locke knows that the monitors in the pearl show the other hatches, that he was surprised by the suggestion of using the monitors to view the other stations. last season he looked at feed of jack in the other hatch

20. Bruce says:

right. bad writing. it’s like it was discovered all over again, forgetting the obvious.

I think this is being taken out of context. Locke wasn’t surprised at the idea of using the monitors to spy on other stations, he was ashamed that he forgot to fiddle with the wiring at the prospect of seeing the other stations after seeing the Swan and throwing a fit that last time.

23. Warrior Fires says:

But what of the need for Ecko to atone and his admonition to Locke that “you are all next?” That left me with the impression that there is certainly some “God-like” judgement being made of each of them, and that they are either redeemed or condemned in an instant of decision-making (e.g., Desmond imploding the hatch and reappearing in the jungle naked – as in reborn), or Ecko refusing to repent and being laid low. Thoughts?

24. MK says:

Here’s one for you. If Eko did say you’re next (plural or singular), that that must mean Smokey communicated with him! “Tell your friends they’re next”?
Sounds cheesy. With that much apparent power, why didn’t Smokey just smoke them all to smitherines instead of taunting them and running away? Not like it is a mystery, they all know of its existence. Why not finish the job? Unless it needs to replenish its energy somehow?

25. Julie says:

Okay just took a look at the mural over at lostpedia.
First thing I noticed:
The man with the eye patch drawn in the mural…. the patch is on the wrong eye. You and I both know that they wouldnt have just made this mistake. So, if Desmond painted this after having a vision… in his vision it was a mirror image… as in… in his vision HE was the eye patch wearer.
Second thing I noticed:
The person shaded in white which everyone is assuming is the counter balance to the eye patch wearer shaded in black looks a lot like Juliet.
The third thing I noticed (which is pretty insignificant):
The little houses dotted around the mural. They’re very simple. Whoever drew or whoever is suppoed to have drawn this mural has some artistic ability.. so what would be the significance of such simple houses…the ‘others’ village, they’re homes (and in turn what seems to be their existance) is very simple.
Question. Has Desmond seen all these things in his vision? We know that he has “visions” we all assume this is something new that happened since the hatch imploded. What if its not?

26. todd sanders says:
27. Julie says:

Also, on the mural.. there seems to be a word written below the 108 that is below the sun. Maybe I’m wrong but it looks like the word MINE or MIND.. something.

28. Andreas says:
Are we now assuming the that smoke and mechanical monsters are two different things?
Well.. not assuming, but I don’t think we can count it out since we didn’t see what Locke saw.

Just because it was stated by Kelvin that Radzinski was the one who made the edits to the film its a bit of a leap to say he was missing an eye.kelvin never said anything about a one eyed Radzinski. It was stated that a mural in the swan showed a figure who was missing his left eye,the guy in the video is missing his right eye.Just because a glass eye was found with the film edits does not make the glass eyes Radzinskis, its a possibility but not a fact yet.thoughts?

Okay.. well..
first: if you said that already, I missed it. I can’t read everything everyone writes.. so if you feel that i stole your ideas then I’m sorry… but again it was just my opinion when I looked at the mural.
I had never actually looked at the mural before so I doubt that it was me that “poo pooed” your idea. Maybe another Julie?
Second: I dont think that I have ever trashed anyones ideas. I think that everyone is just as lost as I am and well… anything is possible. I thought it was radzinsky until it was posted today that it def wasnt.
Again… I’m wondering if your not thinking about someone else… because I dont remember anyone specifically telling ME no, its not radzinsky and I sure had NO idea that the mural had the wrong eye patched until I looked at it today.

sorry Julie,I mixed up you and “Patients’ apoligies.

I never discredited you or trashed your ideas. I simply thought we were engaging in a conversation. I had no idea you are so sensitive. sorry if you feel that way but that wasnt my intentions.

35. Andreas L says:

I had a funny idea about this guy, thought of him as
a part of this submarine theory that we’ve talked about.

Because of the eyepatch..

Eyepatch=Marine, hehe, A vague but funny thought. Seen it in a lot of movies etc, but it doesent have to be connected to that at all.

36. Floorcookie says:

What if the Eye-Patch Guy is Dr. Mark Wickmund (who is also the lab coat-clad narrator of the Swan film, although he went by the name Dr. Marvin Candle).

We already know he had some body-part issues (arm missing, then reappearing in more recent video). If he is donating body parts then regenerating them or doing some kind of body-part experimentation, then why not his eye?

Just a thought.

— Mike

37. Andreas says:

Floorcookie, I agree that it would be exciting if Mr.Patch was Dr.Wikmund/Candle but sadly they are played by different actors so that’s not the case.

39. maplesyrup98 says:

When Locke spoke to Eko about what he saw,I had the impression he was talking about one of those near-death experiences.

40. Erik says:

How do we know that this is Andrew Davioff? Where is the documentation on that?

41. GaFan says:

Lots of Wizard of OZ things going on. “Henry Gale” (Dorothy’s uncle’s name), the guy Ben pretended to be comes to the island in a hot air balloon.
It’s obviously a Wizard of Oz thing going on.

42. KillerR says:

The fact that it’s the opposite eye in the mural isn’t really important. What is important is the fact that the figure in the mural is missing an eye. Pairing that with the images of Micheal and Jin’s raft you have quite a revelation.
For all we know desmond’s visions could be images that are flipped 180 degrees. Maybe the image in the Pearl was rotated 180 degrees due to Desmond and Sayid fiddling with the wires. In the second act of this season hopefully we’ll get a Desmond flashback of his experiences on the island. I think we will start getting more flashbacks of characters experiences on the island as this and future seasons episodes are written. February can’t come fast enough. Yeah come on.

43. KillerR says:

In the post above i forgot to mention the look on Desmond’s face when that dude appeared. It was like he had seen a ghost. You could tell the editor had edited out most of the zoom in on Desmond on purpose in order to not make it so obvious that he had seen Patchy before. I think Desmond needs to pay the good ol’ sweat lodge a visit and see what he can come up with.

But to try and answer the original question: Maybe he’s from Rousseau’s team of scientists. I didn’t believe her when she said she killed all of them. Or maybe she thought she did and some survived somehow. He could be Robert.

44. patience says:
Minor misunderstanding,Im fine,your fine,everyones fine.
well thats good, but hey man you totally called it good job.

45. anna says:

Who else is irritated by those extremely attractive crash survivors that have been randomly pulled into the show? are they just eye candy for new viewers? that’s bad taste.

46. Lesley says:

I think patchy is the same person who was smoking in the Pearl and looking at the monitors for Swan activity just prior to Locke and Eko’s arrival the first time they visited. (Perhaps he was hiding in the bathroom.) Seems odd that Paulo would draw attention to the bathroom…maybe they are going to follow the plumbing…haha. Anyway patchy is dressed very shabbily…like the group with the teddy bear and I bet he is not wearing shoes. I cannot wait to find out who he is.

47. Tracy says:

I’ve got two ideas. First, the others did so much dressing up to make people not be able to recognize them that for all we know patchy could not really have any eye problems. For a while we thought one of teh others had a really thick beard and then Claire went back to the medical place and we found that beard and other clothes in the lockers. Second, am I the only one that remembers after Patchy turning off the camera Locke saying “Well then I guess he knows we’re coming for him.” How would Locke even know where the station is? Does he knwo something? Or did he see the look on Desmond’s face and think Desmond might be able to lead them to Patchy. Also remember in hte first couple episodes whatever ripped the pilot to shreds when they went to go find the transmittor or whatever it was definitely did a lot more damage than the cloud that killed Eko. Maybe they are two seperate things. ALso, I don’t remember anything of these visions that desmond has. Did I miss something? I only missed 2 or 3 episodes at the beginning of season 2. Can someone explain this?

48. KillerR says:

80% of me feels like the others Eko and Jin saw were not Ben’s others. Then, there’s 20% of me that feels they only showed them in that way to establish 1) that Rousseau isn’t completely from someother planet and 2)that there are “others” on the island.

I do have a question for Lesley. Was that what was broken up on the tray when Eko and Locke went to the Pearl the first time?

49. Victoria says:

I have no idea who eye-patch man is and I am hoping to find out soon. *crosses fingers*

My broha made a good point when I was talking to him about this tonight. Several people made some comments on how the mural was confusing and stuff. You have to know for a show like this they hired an artist, told him a few things about the show and things that needed to be in the mural, and after he put those things in just let him do some oddball stuff partly based on what he knew about they told him about the show and partly just whatever the guy felt like drawing. So don’t look too deeply into the things like the houses scattered about the edge. Odds are things like that have nothing to do with the show.

51. soularheart says:

Hey guys,
I’ve been reading your thoughts about the smokey! Very interesting! In particular the probability of Locke’s being white/light and Eko’s being black/dark! But wasn’t the smoke that dragged down Locke inside that hole also black? We never saw what exactly he was looking up to but what suddenly appeared and escaped when Jack threw in the dynamites inside the hole was the ”black” smokey!

And a question, (sorry if its irrelevant to this topic) didn’t Desmond initially told the losties that the reason why he ended up on the island was that while in the boat he saw a man running and waving at him on the beach? But in his flashback he was basically shipwrecked!?

52. KillerR says:

The artist who painted the mural is executive producer (and director of the many Lost episodes) Jack Bender. I’d have to believe that with him doing the painting there is much signifigance to images that are in it.

And, to soularheart, I believe (at least in my post) when we say one security system could be “light/white” and one could be “dark/black” its more or less going with the whole black and white theme that discribes the struggle of good vs. evil as Locke sort of explained to Walt about the back gammon pieces in season one.
